SigScan Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 20, 2026

Overview

This Privacy Policy describes how the SigScan iOS application ("the App") handles information. SigScan is a utility for viewing the wireless environment around your own device. It has no user accounts, no advertising, no third-party analytics, and no tracking of any kind.

The short version: your scans are stored on your device and nothing is collected about you. Scan data leaves your phone only when you ask the optional AI assistant a question, as described below.

Data the App Handles On-Device

To do its job, SigScan processes the following information locally on your iPhone:

  • Bluetooth advertisements broadcast by nearby devices (names, manufacturer data, signal strength)
  • NFC tag contents when you deliberately hold your phone against a tag
  • Your current WiFi network details and devices advertising services on your local network
  • Carrier and radio technology information from iOS
  • Camera frames, used only to render the live augmented reality view; frames are never saved or transmitted
  • Your GPS location, used only to stamp your own scan history so you can review it on a map

All of this is stored on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. It is not uploaded to any server, except for the assistant summary described below when you ask a question, and it is included in your device backups only according to your own iOS backup settings. Deleting the App deletes this data. CSV export shares data only where you explicitly choose to send it.

The AI Assistant Feature

SigScan includes an optional assistant that answers questions about your scan results. When you type a question, the App sends your question to a server operated by the developer, which forwards it to Anthropic's Claude API and returns the answer. Along with your question, the App sends:

  • A summary of up to 20 scanned devices: make, model, signal type, category, chip maker, average signal strength, how many times each was seen, risk flags and the evidence for them, whether it appeared to be moving, and how many places it was logged
  • Your last 30 scan events: device name, time and signal strength. Your location is never included
  • No identifiers for your iPhone, no advertising identifiers and no account information (the App has no accounts)
  • Queries are processed transiently to produce the answer and are not used to build any profile of you

If you never use the assistant, the App sends none of your scan data or location anywhere. Anthropic's handling of API traffic is described in the Anthropic Privacy Policy.

Data Collection

The App collects no personal data. There are no accounts, no analytics SDKs, no advertising SDKs, no crash reporting services, and no tracking across apps or websites. The developer receives no information about you or your use of the App, other than the transient AI assistant queries described above and standard aggregate App Store statistics provided by Apple.

Permissions

SigScan requests Bluetooth, Camera, Location, NFC, HomeKit, and Local Network permissions solely to provide the features described above. Each permission is optional; the App degrades gracefully if a permission is declined. You can change permissions at any time in iOS Settings.

Children

The App is not directed at children and collects no personal data from anyone, including children.

Changes

Material changes to this Policy will be reflected on this page with an updated date above. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
